Aboriginal Health
Sarah Kleinitz is our Indigenous Health Project Officer working on the Close the Gap project.
Sarah was previously the Clinical Services Officer at Greater Eastern Primary Health (formerly Knox Division of General Practice) where she worked on the Australian Better Health Initiative (ABHI) project. Sarah will be visiting practices in and around Healesville in the next couple of weeks to introduce herself and to talk with GPs and Practice Staff about the PIP Indigenous Health Incentive.
This week has been National Reconciliation Week. This is annual event where activities and events are held to encourage all Australians to respect and learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage and to value justice and equity for everyone. Local activities included an Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training Workshop for the general public, a free screening of episode 3 of The First Australians documentary, a number of free workshops aimed at primary and secondary school students and a Reconciliation Week Morning Tea at The Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place.
As you may be aware, an Indigenous Health Practice Incentive Program was introduced on 1 May. To be eligible for the $1000 sign-on payment for this initiative, at least 2 staff members from the practice (one of whom must be a GP) must undertake appropriate cultural awareness training within 12 months of signing on.
ERGPA is planning to run these appropriate Cultural Awareness training sessions over the next couple of months. More information will be available soon.
If you would like any more information, have any questions or would like to book a clinic visit please contact Sarah on 9871 1000 or sarah.kleinitz@ergpa.com.au.
