The ATAPS Suicide Prevention Service will be launched in early January 2012.  The service will provide treatment and support to individuals at risk of suicide or self harm at a critical point in their lives.  The aim of the service is to complement other ATAPS services but is not intended to replace or duplicate services that are already in place.  Individuals referred to this service need to be a low to moderate risk.  Imminent risk and crisis presentations need to be referred to State/Tertiary Mental Health Service.   Referrals to the SPP can be made between 9 - 3pm on weekdays.  If the referral occurs out of referral hours, over a weekend, or public holiday the referring practitioner can also contact the ATAPS After-Hours service 1800 859 585 until the SPP referral is processed.
