Cold Chain Management

There are a large number of practices that are submitting their Vaccine Fridge Temperature recording for review and being marked not met.

The most common reason for this being that the practice is only recording the minimum and maximum temperatures.

It is essential that not only the minimum and maximum temperatures are recorded but the current temperature is recorded at least daily also. When reviewing your policy and procedure manual relating to cold chain management and your temperature recordings -  these are the six essential things that we look for:

  • Temperature recording
  • Inventory Control/Ordering of stock
  • Fridge and recording equipment maintenance
  • Storage requirements/Packing of the fridge
  • Requirement/Action plan in the event of a cold chain breach
  • What the Practice would do in the event of a power failure or disaster management; and
  • Staff training/Staff member in charge of cold chain management
