Are you interested in ERGPA delivering free health checks for workers in your workplace?
ERGPA has been successful in its quest to become an accredited WorkHealth Endorsed Service Provider eligible to deliver free high quality health checks in workplaces throughout the east and south east regions of Melbourne. WorkHealth is giving employers the opportunity to offer their workers free, confidential and convenient health checks.
A large part of remaining healthy is identifying health risks early and making simple, but important, lifestyle changes. Being healthy means more than not being sick. It means getting more out of life, feeling good and having the energy to do what you want to do - not just at work, but at home and in your leisure time.
WorkHealth aims to support Victorian workplaces by offering voluntary programs to promote worker health and wellbeing and to reduce the impact of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The WorkHealth Check Program will give up to 2.6 million workers across Victoria the opportunity to participate in a WHC at their place of work.
The WorkHealth Checks comprises information and advice to inform individual workers about their risk of chronic diseases, in particular type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and the potential impact of the worker's lifestyle on their health.
The WorkHealth Check features a brief self-assessment questionnaire (WorkHealth Questionnaire), which is completed by the worker prior to the WorkHealth Check and contains questions relating to lifestyle, personal medical history and family history of chronic disease;
- Physical and biomedical measures, including blood pressure, waist circumference, blood cholesterol and blood glucose;
- An assessment of the worker's risk, based on the measures and the questionnaire responses; and
- Provision of appropriate advice to assist the worker in addressing any risks identified.
Worker health and wellbeing is broader than the traditional focus on occupational health and safety. Evidence shows that health, safety and wellbeing programs can bring a range of benefits:
For workers , the personal benefits of participating in workplace health programs are likely to include:
- improved health awareness and knowledge
- improved physical and mental health
- increased energy to do the things you want to do
- increased enjoyment of work
- improved concentration and productivity
For employers , the benefits of providing workplace health programs are likely to include:
- improved productivity
- improved staff morale
- reduced absenteeism
- reduced presenteeism (remaining at work when unwell)
- reduced staff turnover
- reduced workplace injuries
- improved worker relations
- maintaining the skills and experience of ageing workers
ERGPA is offering WorkHealth Checks and referral options to Lifestyle Modification Programs such as Diabetes Australia's Life! Taking Action on Diabetes Program.
