Practice Nurses Workforce Survey Released

The release of the most recent AGPN practice nurse workforce survey which has been undertaken every 2 years since 2003.

Of key interest is the fact that practice nursing remains one of the fastest growing areas of nursing, with the numbers of nurses increasing 15.3% from 2007 to 2009 and approximately 8914 practice nurses now working in general practice. While the numbers of practices employing practice nurses has remained static, practices with a nurse already are employing more. Other data confirms our findings in the APNA salary and conditions survey showing a workforce primarily over 40, working largely part-time and heavily feminised. Also echoing our survey, the AGPN survey showed salary and conditions to be of concern in retaining nurses and while nurses enjoy and value professional development, paid time off and access is still an issue...  National Practice Nurse workforce survey report
